By helping more than 7,000 refugees and immigrants each year, IIB gives new Americans a chance to realize the American dream. "I think we forget sometimes that as Americans we all come from immigrant backgrounds," says Murphy. "My great-grandparents came to America with nothing from Italy and Hungary. Today, families fleeing the worst atrocities we can imagine are arriving on our doorstep, and there are very simple things we can do to say, 'Welcome'."

In her role with IIB, Murphy will work with victims of torture who are seeking asylum in the United States and seek ways to raise public awareness through the media about their plight.
