FIGHTING FOR OUR FUTURE is an intimate and comprehensive journey into the lives of young women courageously battling breast cancer. We reveal how young women have long been ignored by medical and research communities and are most often misdiagnosed, even though their cancer is more aggressive and they are more likely to die of the disease.
In America today, 250,000 women under the age of 40 are living with breast cancer. Another 10,000 will be diagnosed this year. Often told they are “too young” for breast cancer, young women face unique issues - premature menopause, dating, and career issues - but find little to help them navigate the labyrinth of treatment and quality of life decisions they face. A courageous group of young survivors is determined to change that. They are the women of the Young Survival Coalition, the only international organization focused on the issues unique to young women with breast cancer.
Advocates for research, funding and legislative action, they’re making a promise to future survivors: to give them access to information they never had. From doctors’ offices across the country to Capitol Hill, their voices are being heard: Young women can and do get breast cancer.
Featuring the women of the Young Survival Coalition and interviews with medical experts such as Dr. Susan Love, FIGHTING FOR OUR FUTURE chronicles the inspiring stories of women who are determined to make changes in the medical community, and ultimately save lives.
