As part of its support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and its public affairs campaign, Lifetime Television will premiere "Fighting for Our Futures" at 6 tonight on the cable network. The documentary, hosted by actress Melissa Joan Hart, takes an intimate look at the lives of eight young women courageously battling breast cancer.
Beth Murphy, the producer and director of "Fighting for Our Futures," gets the women, who were all diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 36, to share their stories as they struggle with the disease and fight for better diagnosis, treatment and resources.
"I wanted to focus on young women because they haven't had a voice in the medical and research communities. They have never before come together in a meaningful way and find it difficult to be taken seriously," Murphy said.
Murphy pointed out as sad as the individual stories are, something bigger is happening here that is both uplifting and inspiring.
"The spirit of the women I was following is so strong and so positive. Their goal is to make a change and a difference not only for themselves but for the greater good. They are trying to find answers for generations to come," Murphy said.
